Recover Your Discord Account — Locked Out, Hacked, or Lost 2FA
Can't access your Discord account? This guide covers password reset, lost 2FA recovery, hacked account restoration, and how to use backup codes when your authenticator app is inaccessible.
Recovery Steps
Reset Password via Email. On the Discord login screen, click "Forgot your password?" Enter your email address. Discord sends a reset link valid for 30 minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive. Reset Password via Email
Use Your 2FA Backup Codes. If you have your 8-digit 2FA backup codes (provided when you enabled 2FA), enter one when prompted for your authenticator code. Each backup code can be used once.
Request 2FA Removal via Support. If you lost access to your authenticator app and don't have backup codes, contact Discord Support. You must verify account ownership by submitting a selfie with a written note and your Discord tag. The review takes 3–7 business days. Request 2FA Removal via Support
Report a Hacked Discord Account. If your account was compromised, change your email password immediately (Discord accounts are often accessed through email), then contact Discord Support at support.discord.com and report the compromise. Report a Hacked Discord Account
Frequently Asked Questions
I lost my 2FA authenticator app and don't have backup codes. Can I still recover my Discord account?
Yes, but it requires manual verification. Contact Discord Support and request 2FA removal. You'll need to submit a photo of yourself holding a handwritten note with your Discord username, tag, and the current date. Discord reviews these within 3–7 business days.
My Discord account was hacked and the email was changed. What do I do?
Check the email Discord sent to your original email about the address change — it includes a revert link valid for a short window. If that passed, contact Discord Support with proof of ownership. Change the password on the email account that was used to access Discord.
Can I recover my Discord messages and server history after account recovery?
Yes. Your message history, servers, DMs, and settings are all stored server-side and restored automatically when you regain account access. Nothing is lost during the account recovery process itself.
