What's the single most important feature for drone recovery?

moov-atom rebuild. Almost every 'unplayable' DJI / GoPro / Autel clip is a .MP4 or .MOV with a missing or truncated moov atom (the file's index). A generic recovery tool will recover the file but it still won't play. AerialRestore reconstructs the moov from raw H.265 / H.264 / ProRes NAL units, producing a playable file. None of the generalist tools (Disk Drill, EaseUS, Recoverit) do this reliably for DJI.

Does free GoPro / DJI 'video repair' software work?

Free repair tools (Untrunc, ffmpeg with reference file, etc.) work for some H.264 .MP4 cases if you have a known-good reference clip from the same camera shot at the same settings. They do not work on ProRes, ProRes RAW, CinemaDNG, or modern H.265 reliably. AerialRestore handles all four without needing a reference file.

Yes. Native universal binary on macOS 11+ (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10/11. Same license activates either platform.

What if my card is physically damaged (bent, snapped, water-corroded contacts)?

Software can't help with physical damage. AerialRestore will tell you within the first scan minute and refund you. For physical damage, send the card to a clean-room lab (DriveSavers, Salvage Data, Kroll Ontrack) — expect $400-$1,500.

Is AerialRestore safe to run on my card?

Accepted Answer

Yes — it's strictly read-only. The card is imaged into memory (or to a working file on your computer) and recovery happens against the image. Your physical card is never written to during the scan or recovery.

After the scan, AerialRestore shows you a thumbnail and 5-second preview of every recoverable clip — before you pay anything. If your shot is in the preview, you pay $12.99 and unlock the full clips. If your shot isn't there, you pay nothing.
