Is microSD recovery actually different from regular SD card recovery?

Mostly the same logic, but microSD cards are physically smaller — more vulnerable to bending and ESD damage. The flash chip and controller are identical to regular SD cards in operation. Both speak SDIO and use the same exFAT filesystem from drones.

What's the recovery rate on a card that's been formatted multiple times?

Each format adds another layer of metadata clobbering — but the actual H.265 video data is rarely fully overwritten by formatting alone. We've recovered drone footage from cards that were quick-formatted 4-5 times. The recovery rate drops if you've been actively flying after formatting (because new clips overwrite old).

My card is bent / cracked — is recovery possible?

If the controller chip and flash chip are intact, yes — but you'd need a chip-off recovery service, not software. If the card just has a hairline crack but still mounts, software recovery often works. Try AerialRestore first; if the card mounts, you're in business.

Can you recover from a CFexpress card (Mavic 3 Cine, Inspire 3)?

Accepted Answer

Yes. CFexpress is faster (NVMe-based) but functionally similar to recover. You need a CFexpress Type B card reader — they're $40-80 from Sandisk, ProGrade, or Sabrent.

What about the internal 1TB SSD on the Mavic 3 Cine?

Card-level recovery from CFexpress is straightforward. SSD recovery from inside the drone requires partial teardown — not recommended for most users. If your CFexpress data is intact, you usually don't need the SSD.
