What does 'corrupted moov atom' actually mean for DJI footage?

DJI cameras write video in two parts: the 'mdat' atom (raw H.265 video data, written continuously during recording) and the 'moov' atom (the index, written only when you stop recording). If the camera loses power mid-flight — battery, RTH abort, crash, ejected card — the moov never gets written. The video is on the card; nothing knows where it starts and ends. AerialRestore reconstructs the moov from the H.265 NAL boundaries and rewraps the mdat into a playable .MP4.

Can you fix a clip that ended in a crash?

Often, yes. The frames before the impact are usually intact. The last 1-3 seconds may be corrupted because the camera was tumbling and the card was being ejected. We salvage the intact portion and trim the unrecoverable tail.

Does it work for ProRes 422 HQ from Mavic 3 Cine?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ProRes 422 HQ has a clean frame structure (each frame is independent) so partial recovery works very well. We've recovered Mavic 3 Cine clips after the CFexpress card was forcibly ejected mid-record.

What about thermal footage from Mavic 3 Enterprise / M3T?

Yes. R-JPEG thermal sequences and the paired visual H.265 stream both recover. The radiometric data inside the R-JPEG is preserved.

My .SRT telemetry file is corrupted — can you fix it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. .SRT is a plain-text format and AerialRestore reconstructs malformed entries by parsing valid timestamps. Useful if you need GPS coordinates for a survey job.

Will the repaired file work in DaVinci Resolve / Premiere Pro?

Yes — the export is a valid .MP4 / .MOV with correct container atoms. We've tested with Resolve 19, Premiere Pro 25, and Final Cut Pro 11.
