Question 1

Wondershare Recoverit is well-known. Is AerialRestore really better for drones?

Accepted Answer

For drone footage specifically, yes. Recoverit is excellent for general-purpose data recovery — its photo and document recovery is among the best on the market. For drone codecs (H.265 6K, ProRes 422 HQ, R-JPEG thermal) and drone metadata (XMP sidecars, SRT telemetry), AerialRestore is purpose-built. Different tools for different jobs.

Question 2

Does Recoverit support DJI .SRT subtitle / telemetry files?

Accepted Answer

Recoverit recovers .SRT files but treats them as orphan text — it doesn't re-pair them with the parent video clip. That means after recovery you'll have your video files in one folder and your .SRT files in another, with no link between them. You'd have to manually match them by timestamp. AerialRestore re-pairs automatically using embedded clip GUIDs.

Question 3

Can Recoverit fix corrupted MP4 files from a drone?

Accepted Answer

Recoverit Premium ($99.95/year) includes a video repair module that handles broken MP4/MOV containers. It works for many drone failure modes — moov atom missing, truncated clips, fragmented MP4. AerialRestore includes container repair as part of the $12.99 base. The drone-specific corruption patterns (mid-flight write abort, exFAT cluster table corruption) were used to tune AerialRestore's repair logic.

Question 4

Recoverit auto-renews. Does AerialRestore do anything similar?

Accepted Answer

No. AerialRestore is a one-time payment of $12.99. There's no subscription, no auto-renewal, no annual fee. You pay once and get lifetime access including all future drone codec updates.

Question 5

I already have a Recoverit subscription. Should I switch?

Accepted Answer

If Recoverit is recovering your drone footage successfully and the price is fine, no need to switch. AerialRestore is most useful when (1) you're between Recoverit renewals, (2) Recoverit missed clips and you want a second opinion, or (3) you specifically need the SRT/XMP sidecar pairing for telemetry-driven workflows like mapping or surveying.

Question 6

Do both tools work on Mac, Windows, and Linux?

Accepted Answer

AerialRestore recovery downloads include an Apple Silicon Mac DMG, Windows installer and Linux AppImage. Intel Mac support is not verified. Check each vendor's current installers and requirements.
